About Us
ECLAT Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to help deserving students advance their education. Our mission is to provide opportunities, life-enhancing experiences, and financial aid to students in need. ECLAT stands for Education Changes Lives and Times (教育改變命運及時代). It is our desire to help needy students achieve their potential through education, in the U.S., China, Taiwan, and elsewhere. The ECLAT Foundation employs three methods of support: Scholarships, Friendship, and Leadership. We want to make life better for future generations!
Scholarships
Since 2011, in partnership with the Gesanghua Western Education Support Organization (www.gesanghua.org) and the Guizhou Guangming Walk in China, scholarships have been provided in provinces like Qinghai, Sichuan, and Guizhou, aiding 968 financially struggling high school students by 2023. In Taiwan, since 2012, collaboration with Taipei's Puren Youth Care Foundation (www.you-care.org.tw) has enabled scholarship support for rural junior and high school students through the ECLAT Taiwan Association. In the USA, since 2014, in partnership with the Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT), scholarships have been awarded annually to high-achieving, financially needy students in North Texas entering university or currently in university, totaling 122 high school seniors and 60 university students, with a cumulative scholarship amount of $357,000.
Friendship
Provides a platform for disadvantaged students to “broaden their horizons, experience the world, make friends, and grow happily”. This includes selecting about 40 middle/high school students annually, along with teachers, to participate in a week-long summer camp. Since 2013, camps have been held in Xi'an, Beijing, and Taiwan. Since 2015, students from Mainland China, Taiwan, and the USA have participated (suspended from 2020-now). Since 2015, the foundation has sponsored Puren’s "Guidance Program", funding after-school activities like music and band clubs. In 2019, it partnered with Taiwan's Coding Association to sponsor software training for elementary students.
Leadership
Since 2018, in collaboration with the University of Texas at Dallas, the "Future Leaders Program (FLP)" has been held each summer in Texas, offering outstanding college students from Mainland China and Taiwan the opportunity to study in the USA (conducted via remote virtual classes in 2021-2022 due to the pandemic). By 2023, 53 students had completed the program, and the FLP Alumni Association (FLPAA) was established in 2019. The ECLAT Foundation is a non-profit organization without any racial, religious, or political affiliations. Our philosophy is “Education Changes Lives and Times”; our spirit is “Charity through education, gratitude to society by helping others”. Our goal is to help outstanding, disadvantaged youth receive quality education and grow healthily!
Our Timeline
2008: Our Humble Beginnings
ECLATs origins roots back to the initial efforts and funding provided by Mrs. Jane Jan and her husband, Dr. Yih-Min Jan with the pursuit of helping deserving underprivileged students in remote areas of China and Taiwan to advance their education
2011: ECLAT is Founded
ECLAT was founded in 2011 by a group of Chinese-Americans in Dallas, Texas to continue the mission started by Mrs. Jan and Dr. Jan to use Education to change Lives and Times by providing opportunities, life-enhancing experiences, and financial aid to students needs it most.
Since 2012: Hope Class Program
ECLAT cooporates with GeSangHua to provide tuition, boarding expenses, and hosted English classes for over 100 impoverished high school students in Qinghai. This program has since evolved into summer camps that provide the students with inspirational trips to XiAn, Beijing, Taiwan.
Since 2012: Scholarship Programs
Since 2012, ECLAT works YouCare of Taiwan to provide financial assistance to disadvantaged high school students in Taiwan. Since 2014, ECLAT has been collaborating with CFT in awarding scholarships to university students in Texas.
Since 2018: Study Abroad Program in Texas
ECLAT teamed up with The University of Texas at Dallas in 2018 to provide a study abroad program in the state of Texas for underprivileged outstanding students in Taiwan and China.
